A pre-Independence bridge collapsed on Sunday afternoon in the Kalahandi district of Odisha, trapping two cars, according to an officer.
The individuals who were trapped in the cars were rescued by firefighters and police. Around 3 o’clock, the event took place in Bhawanipatna close to Bhagirathi Park.
The engineering division of the former princely state of Kalahandi constructed the bridge in 1925, linking Bhawanipatna to Thuamul Rampur and Kashipur.
According to an official, the incident cut off traffic between Bhawanipatna, Thuamul Rampur, and Kashipur.
Ajit Babu, the PWD’s supervising engineer, indicated that the cause of the old bridge’s collapse would be looked into.
He mentioned there will be a bridge built there that was 40 metres long.
