During the tests, all mission objectives were completed with pinpoint accuracy using the QRSAM armament system and cutting-edge guidance and control algorithms.

The Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) system’s six flight tests from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, have been completed successfully, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Army reported on Thursday. Officials claim that the Indian Army performed the flight tests as a part of evaluation trials.

In addition, it stated that the tests were conducted against fast-moving aerial targets that simulated various aerial threats in order to assess the effectiveness of weapon systems in a variety of situations, such as long-range, medium-altitude, short-range, high-altitude manoeuvring target, and salvo launch, which involves firing two missiles in rapid succession. The system’s performance was then assessed in both daytime and nighttime operation conditions.

Mission goals were accomplished precisely

The DRDO claims that throughout the testing, all mission objectives were accomplished with pinpoint accuracy using the QRSAM weapon system and cutting-edge guidance and control algorithms, including the warhead chain.

Later, information obtained from a variety of Range sensors, including Telemetry, Radar, and Electro-Optical Tracking Systems (EOTS) placed by ITR, validated the system’s performance.

Senior representatives from the DRDO and the Indian Army were present for each launch as it took place.

“These tests were conducted in the final deployment configuration consisting of all indigenously developed sub-systems including the missile with indigenous RF seeker, mobile launcher, fully automated command and control system, surveillance and multi-function Radars”, it added.

Speaking about the weapon system, DRDO stated that it can operate on the go with search and track capability and fire on a short pause, and the same was also verified during the mobility trials carried out earlier. They also noted the peculiarity of the QRSAM weapon system.

Further about the weapon system QRSAM

The Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM), developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Bharat Electronics Limited, and Bharat Dynamics Limited for the Indian Army, is designed to defend moving armoured columns from aerial attacks.

The missile system contains a fully automated Command and Control System as well as two four-walled radars that each have a 360-degree field of view.
