In a landmark development, the BJP-led Odisha government, under the astute leadership of Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, has made significant strides in fortifying Odisha’s position on the global economic map. Singapore has been announced as the first country partner for the highly anticipated ‘Utkarsh Odisha: Make-in-Odisha Conclave 2025,’ set to take place on January 28 and 29, 2025. This marks a pivotal moment for the state’s growth and investment prospects.

Singapore Partnership: A Strategic Milestone

The announcement came during a high-profile meeting between Chief Minister Majhi and Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, at Lok Seva Bhawan. The High Commissioner revealed that Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam would visit Odisha as part of his India tour in January. This visit underscores the deepening ties between Singapore and Odisha and highlights the state’s immense potential for global collaboration.

High Commissioner Wong emphasized, “Odisha is the only state Singapore President chose to visit as he sees the huge opportunity for strengthening business partnerships with the state along with the existing cultural ties.” He identified key areas of focus, including petrochemicals, green energy, and skills development.

Building on Strong Foundations

This announcement comes as India and Singapore celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations. Over the decades, their partnership has evolved into a robust strategic alliance encompassing trade, defense, technology, and cultural exchange. Singapore remains one of India’s largest sources of foreign direct investment (FDI), while Indian companies have a significant presence in Singapore across various sectors.

Chief Minister Majhi’s recent visit to Singapore was instrumental in cementing this partnership. During his visit, he personally invited President Tharman to Odisha, showcasing the state’s commitment to fostering meaningful collaborations.

Expanding Horizons: Global Engagements

Apart from Singapore, the Odisha government has extended invitations to several other nations, including Japan and Germany, to join as country partners for the Conclave. In total, 34 countries have been invited to participate in the two-day event, reflecting Odisha’s ambitious vision for international collaboration and economic growth. Additionally, many prominent corporate industrial houses from around the globe are expected to attend this mega event, underscoring its significance as a platform for high-level business and investment opportunities.

The Make-in-Odisha Conclave has already established itself as a flagship event for attracting investments and fostering partnerships. This year’s edition, themed ‘Utkarsh Odisha,’ aims to accelerate the state’s industrial growth while reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Key Areas of Focus

During discussions with the Singapore delegation, Chief Minister Majhi identified several sectors with significant collaboration potential:

  • Petrochemical Complex Development: Leveraging Singapore’s expertise in industrial planning and technology.
  • Green Energy Initiatives: Advancing renewable energy projects to align with global sustainability goals.
  • Skill Development: Strengthening IT and technical skills to build a future-ready workforce.
  • Tourism and Cultural Exchange: Promoting Odisha’s rich heritage to attract global tourists.
  • Urban Planning: Integrating modern urban solutions to enhance the state’s infrastructure.

Leadership Spearheading Transformation

Chief Minister Majhi’s proactive leadership and vision have positioned Odisha as a preferred destination for global investors. His government’s dedication to fostering international partnerships has earned accolades, not just within India, but globally. The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Singapore’s President and High Commissioner for their confidence in Odisha’s potential.

“The relationship between Singapore and Odisha is now poised to advance to the next level,” Majhi stated. “We envision a future of shared growth, innovation, and cultural enrichment.”

Conclusion: A New Era for Odisha

The upcoming visit by Singapore’s President and the state’s robust engagements with other global partners signal a new era for Odisha. As the Make-in-Odisha Conclave 2025 approaches, the state stands ready to showcase its unparalleled potential, fostering an environment of growth, innovation, and international collaboration. The BJP-led government’s efforts are not only transforming Odisha’s economic landscape but also positioning it as a beacon of opportunity and excellence on the global stage.
