Odisha is making bold strides towards a future powered by clean and sustainable energy. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the state has embarked on a mission to establish Green Energy Corridors—a transformative infrastructure initiative that will ensure seamless transmission of renewable energy across Odisha. This landmark project reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring reliable, affordable, and eco-friendly power for every citizen.
Odisha’s Green Energy Corridors will integrate solar, wind, and emerging renewable sources into the state grid, laying the foundation for a robust and future-ready energy system. Official sources confirm that these corridors are essential for achieving the state’s ambitious clean energy targets and for creating a model of inclusive, sustainable development.
Chief Minister Majhi has been instrumental in driving this agenda forward, ensuring that renewable energy becomes a cornerstone of Odisha’s economic growth and environmental stewardship. His leadership has galvanized departments, stakeholders, and industries into action, setting a clear direction for a greener Odisha.
Odisha has the technical potential to generate over 200 GW of solar energy, distributed across:
-
138 GW from ground-mounted solar installations
-
33.5 GW from floating solar projects on reservoirs
-
10 GW from rooftop solar systems
Currently, solar energy accounts for 21% of Odisha’s total 2,938 MW renewable energy capacity. The state’s integrated approach positions it as a frontrunner in India’s clean energy revolution.
Odisha’s floating solar initiative—aiming for 1,000 MW capacity—is progressing rapidly. An inter-departmental committee is finalizing GIS maps for key reservoirs, including Hirakud, Rengali, and Upper Indravati, while exploring viable sites at Upper Kolab and Balimela. This effort demonstrates the government’s commitment to utilizing natural resources responsibly while advancing energy security and rural electrification.
In addition to solar, Odisha is shaping the future of energy through its bold Green Hydrogen Vision, targeting 3–5 MTPA production capacity to fuel industrial corridors across eastern and southern India. This vision, aligned with the national goal of Viksit Bharat 2047, reflects the state’s forward-thinking approach to sustainable energy. Odisha’s strategy includes investments in floating solar, agrivoltaics, energy storage, and grid modernization—building a resilient and inclusive clean energy ecosystem.
The government is also ensuring that the benefits of clean energy reach every sector. Through targeted subsidies for energy-efficient and solar pump sets, Odisha is empowering farmers to reduce electricity costs, enhance agricultural productivity, and contribute to environmental sustainability. This initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to inclusive development and long-term energy security.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s leadership has been pivotal in shaping this ambitious clean energy roadmap. His vision for a sustainable Odisha is not just about technology and infrastructure—it is about creating a future where economic growth and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Under his guidance, Odisha is not merely transitioning away from fossil fuels; it is building a national model for clean energy innovation, inclusiveness, and resilience.
The establishment of Green Energy Corridors is more than an infrastructure project. It is a symbol of Odisha’s bold commitment to a cleaner, greener, and self-reliant future for its people.
