A day after receiving a new term extension as Chief Secretary of Odisha, Shri Suresh Mahapatra announced on Thursday a plan to spend Rs 1000 Crore on the expansion of the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla.

During his visit to VSSUT with 5T Secretary Shri VK Pandian & Technical Education Secretary Shri Hemant Sharma, he declared, “A masterplan will be established for the technical institute and it will be developed as a centre of excellence.”

According to Mahapatra, a master plan is being created for VSSUT to transform it into a Center of Excellence in accordance with the Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik’s instructions. The campus currently has 5000 students; a plan will be developed to house 10,000 students and expand the facilities.

Hemant Sharma, the secretary for skill development and technical education, and V K Pandian, the secretary to the chief minister (5T), had been with the chief secretary. They also examined the work done at Baijamunda’s Integrated Infrastructure Complex (IIC), which is part of the SSEPD Department.

Mahapatra stated that more than 500 prisoners will soon reside in the Complex once it is completed. Within the next one to two months, it will be completely functional.

They also spoke with the students and faculty at the Lady Lewis Girls High School, which was changed as part of the 5T High School Transformation programme.

They then went to Samaleswari Temple to evaluate the work that has been done so far under the SAMALEI plan. Mahapatra claimed that numerous homes have been relocated and that construction work will shortly begin. The delay in the plan is the result of both small changes to the original design and the delay in the land acquisition procedure.
