Seven land allottees who have the ability to employ 4,603 people have pledged to invest roughly Rs 914 crore in the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC).
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, responded to questions from BJD MP Sasmit Patra by informing the Rajya Sabha that the Odisha Industrial Development Corporation (IDCO) has received approval for the establishment of a greenfield EMC in 2016 with a project cost of Rs 200.76 crore and a central grant-in-aid of Rs 93.09 crore.
“This EMC has the potential to attract an investment of over Rs 979 crore and create 10,000 job opportunities. Seven land allottees with the capacity to employ 4,603 people have already pledged to invest around Rs 914 crore “added the Minister.
Two incubation facilities have been authorised for 2019 as part of the Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE 2.0) scheme: the KIIT Technology Business Incubator at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar and the Foundation for Technology and Business Incubation (FTBI) at NIT Rourkela. Currently, both centres have onboarded roughly 15 businesses.
He claimed that four STPI centres had been operationalized in Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Rourkela, and Balasore. More than 250 IT/ITeS businesses, including well-known behemoths like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Mindtree, and Capgemini, have signed up for the Software Technology Parks (STP) programme and have a back office or branch office in Odisha. About Rs 2,566 crore worth of exports were made by these IT/ITeS businesses in 2021–2022.
For the purpose of strengthening the tech startup ecosystem in the State, four new STPI centres are opening in Angul, Jajpur, Sambalpur, and Jeypore. A Bhubaneswar STPI, according to the Minister, is one of the 12 Next Generation Incubation Schemes (NGIS) that the Ministry has approved, with a budgeted cost of Rs 95.03 crore over a three-year period.
