Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, unveiled a platform on Wednesday that will facilitate quicker investigations and the 21-day payment of compensation to SC-ST atrocity victims.
He said that the SAACAR portal, also known as the Single Window Application Atrocity Compensation Assistance and Relief system, will assist the authorities in avoiding the delays brought on by the current manual system of investigation and compensation for the victims.
“My government is committed to the welfare of the SC/ST community and this new portal will bring a huge solace to the victims of atrocity belonging to the SC/ST community,” he said.
According to official sources, Odisha registered 2,828 cases of crime against members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in 2020–21, up from 2,768 cases the year before.
The platform was created by the departments of Home, ST & SC Development, and Revenue & Disaster Management.
According to officials, the SAACAR portal would house all of the atrocity cases that have been reported to the state’s numerous police stations. The victims’ accounts will be promptly credited with the compensation amount.
