Biraja Prasad from Odisha belonging to the Indian Foreign Service of 1998 batch, presently Counselor (Political) in Indian Embassy in Moscow, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Tajikistan. Prasad has had diplomatic assignments in various capacities in Indian Embassies in the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan and Spain.
He worked as the Deputy Chief of Mission in the Indian Embassy in Madrid. In the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India, he handled the work related to India’s bilateral relations with the Russian Federation, France, Germany and Spain. Prasad (40) is the youngest IFS Officer to be appointed as India’s Ambassador to any country Biraja Prasad is a career Diplomat.
He joined the Indian Foreign Service (I.F.S) in 1998. He has held diplomatic assignments as Third Secretary and then Second Secretary (Political) in Embassy of India, Moscow (Russian Federation) from 2000 to 2002; and Second Secretary (Political & Commercial) & HOC in Embassy of India, Almaty (Kazakhstan) from 2002 to 2004.
He also served as Under Secretary (Russia) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi from 2004 to 2005; Under Secretary (Europe West) from 2005 to 2007; Deputy Secretary (Europe West) and then Director (Europe West) from 2007 to 2011. He joined the Embassy of India, Madrid in September, 2011 and is presently holding the position of Deputy Chief of Mission.
His Father Sri Bhramarabar Mallik, a Retd. Central Govt. Officer of a Senior Position hails from Village-Mathasai in Puri Sadar Block of District of Puri and his Mother Mrs Bijaya Mallik is a house Wife.
He holds a degree of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electronics and Communication Engineering. He Speaks English, Russian, Hindi, Oriya and a little Spanish.
