The 22 castes must be included on the SEBC list, according to the chief secretary of Odisha, in order to receive all social welfare benefits and measures that promote their inclusive growth and integrate them into society as a whole.
By amending the 1993 Odisha State Commission for Backward Classes Act, the Odisha Cabinet on Saturday authorised the addition of 22 castes and tribes to the state list of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC).
Even though the 22 castes/communities and their synonyms are listed in the central OBC list, according to the chief secretary of Odisha, Suresh Mohapatra, they are not on the state’s SEBC list.
“In view of the social and educational backwardness of these 22 castes/communities, they are required to be included in the list of SEBC for extending all social welfare measures and benefits leading to their inclusive growth, thereby bringing them to the mainstream of development,” Mohapatra said.
According to the state SEBC list, there are 22 castes that are represented, including Badhei, Bindhani, Bindani, Baraji, Baroi, Sankhua Tanti, Gola Tanti, Lajya Nibaran, Hansi Tanti, Kapadia, Gandhamali, Thanapati, Pandara Mali, Paniar Mali, Pandaria, Oda-Khandayat, Bayalisha Oda, Oda Paika,
