Five Left wing trade unions of the State on Sunday decided to support the nationwide strike called by Central trade unions on September 2.
The Central trade unions had presented a 12-point charter of demands to the Government which included rollback of amendments made to the labour laws and controversial amendments in the Land Bill, 2015.
The trade unions have been opposing privatisation in railways, insurance and defence while demanding universal public distribution system and increasing minimum wages. The unbridled price rise of essential commodities, rising unemployment, contractual appointment in place of regular recruitment, abolition of posts, drastic reduction in fund allocation to education, health and failure to implement minimum wage in jobs in different sectors are other points of their protest.
State leaders of the CPI, CPM, CPI(ML), SUCI and Forward Bloc met here and decided to extend support to the national strike called by Central trade unions, said CPM State secretariat member Santosh Das.
