In a horrific incident, a neighbour in Odisha’s Rayagada district allegedly hacked a woman to death on Monday because he thought she was a witch, according to police.
Chandrama Bibhar, 55, has been named as the deceased. The incident took place in Koilapara village around noon, according to the police. The claimed perpetrator of the incident is Rajesh Kulesika, a resident of the area.
After arriving at the victim’s home, the kid rapped on the door. He allegedly assaulted her with an axe when Bibhar answered the door, killing her there and then, according to the police.
The authorities had a preliminary suspicion that the occurrence may have occurred due to a possible witchcraft practise.
Following notification, local police responded to the scene and took possession of the offending weapon while also taking custody of the accused and sending the body for post-mortem examination.
