According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, the State Water Resources Department welcomed 257 Junior Engineers (Civil), including 87 women engineers, on Wednesday (CMO).
At Lok Seva Bhawan’s Convention Center, an orientation event was held.
While participating in the programme online, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik greeted the new engineers and wished them success in the future. He also urged them to approach their work with passion, honesty, and consideration for the State’s citizens.
CM Naveen Patnaik said, “Apart from providing irrigation facilities to the farmers, the Water Resources Department is also responsible for flood management to protect the life and property of our people. He added that the state has more than two thousand five hundred dams and work for some major dams like Lower Suktel, Kanpur and Ghatkeswar are in progress.”
He added that the Water Resources Department is also building 30 instream storage structures and has plans to build 16 more across other State rivers, with an estimated financial outlay of Rs 12,000 crores. According to him, these buildings will help society twice: by conserving surface water and raising the groundwater table.
Junior engineers play a bigger part in on-site project supervision, project management and maintenance, and assuring designed irrigation for agricultural land.
The Department’s initiatives to IT-enable governance, which will increase accountability, efficiency, and transparency, made him happy, he said.
The CM introduced the PROMISe procurement management information system, which will be very helpful in managing the many procurement procedures with the most recent data, records, and work status.
He said that the 5T Initiative has adopted a comprehensive computer programme called Water ERP, which will soon be released. According to him, this will be very helpful in the efficient real-time planning and management of irrigation and flooding.
The Chief Minister has envisioned transformative projects for the state that will elevate the state among states, according to Minister for Water Resources Tukuni Sahu, who spoke at the event. He urged the fresh engineers to work responsibly and with dedication to the community.
Sthitipragyan Biswal, Lokesh Bal, and Nikita Majhi, three new engineers, shared their experiences and remarked on how prompt and completely transparent the hiring process had been. They pledged to work for transformational efforts as directed by Mo Sarkar and 5T.
In her welcome speech, ACS Smt. Anu Garg of the Water Resources Department stated that the department is actively seeking to hire engineers at various levels. She also emphasised the technological initiatives the department is implementing to improve water management’s efficiency and transparency. EIC for Water Resources proposed the motion of gratitude.
