The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), hosted for the first time in Odisha from January 8-10, concluded on a high note, marking a significant milestone for the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The event, which celebrated the Indian diaspora’s contribution to India’s development, showcased Odisha as a hub for investment, tourism, and cultural heritage.

A Historic Opportunity for Odisha

Reflecting on the event’s success, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted the unique opportunity it provided for the state. “For the first time, Odisha received the opportunity to host Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. Our program was a great success, starting with the young diaspora, followed by visits from the Prime Minister and the President. Delegates from across the world not only explored Odisha’s rich heritage but also engaged in discussions about investment and tourism development,” he said.

Majhi also emphasized the event’s role in securing Odisha’s economic future. “In our plenary sessions, we discussed business and tourism opportunities. Many delegates have shown interest in investing in Odisha. We have already sanctioned investments worth Rs 2.5 trillion, and we are confident that an additional Rs 5 trillion will follow,” he added.

Showcasing Odisha’s Rich Heritage

As part of the PBD program, delegates visited iconic sites like Puri and Konark, experiencing the state’s cultural and spiritual wealth. The Chief Minister stated that these visits left a lasting impression on the guests, enhancing Odisha’s reputation as a top-tier tourism destination.

Celebrating Excellence

The event also honored notable individuals for their contributions to strengthening India’s global ties. Awardees like Sudha Rani Gupta and Sarita Boodhoo expressed their gratitude for being recognized by the Government of India.

Sudha Rani Gupta, an awardee, remarked, “I am deeply honoured and overjoyed to receive this award. I am grateful to the government of India for recognising my contribution.” Similarly, Sarita Boodhoo stated, “I am grateful to the Government of India for acknowledging my efforts in building bridges between India and Mauritius.”

A Global Perspective

Shullette Cox, President of Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), lauded the event for fostering meaningful discussions. She said, “To bring the diaspora here and engage in discussions about their experiences overseas is a remarkable step. It’s essential for India’s journey toward its 2047 goals.”

Odisha’s Vision for the Future

The success of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas underscores Odisha’s growing prominence on the global stage. The state’s proactive efforts in organizing the event and showcasing its potential have set the foundation for long-term economic and cultural gains.

Chief Minister Majhi concluded, “Odisha is on the path to becoming a global investment and tourism hub. Events like Pravasi Bharatiya Divas are not just milestones but also catalysts for the state’s transformation.”

With its rich heritage, strategic initiatives like the Make in Odisha Conclave, and growing investment inflows, Odisha is well on its way to achieving sustainable development and global recognition under the visionary leadership of CM Mohan Charan Majhi.
