The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), hosted for the first time in Odisha from January 8-10, concluded on a high note, marking a significant milestone for the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The event, which celebrated the Indian diaspora’s contribution to India’s development, showcased Odisha as a hub for investment, tourism, and cultural heritage.
A Historic Opportunity for Odisha
Reflecting on the event’s success, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted the unique opportunity it provided for the state. “For the first time, Odisha received the opportunity to host Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. Our program was a great success, starting with the young diaspora, followed by visits from the Prime Minister and the President. Delegates from across the world not only explored Odisha’s rich heritage but also engaged in discussions about investment and tourism development,” he said.
Majhi also emphasized the event’s role in securing Odisha’s economic future. “In our plenary sessions, we discussed business and tourism opportunities. Many delegates have shown interest in investing in Odisha. We have already sanctioned investments worth Rs 2.5 trillion, and we are confident that an additional Rs 5 trillion will follow,” he added.
Showcasing Odisha’s Rich Heritage
As part of the PBD program, delegates visited iconic sites like Puri and Konark, experiencing the state’s cultural and spiritual wealth. The Chief Minister stated that these visits left a lasting impression on the guests, enhancing Odisha’s reputation as a top-tier tourism destination.
