According to statistics released by the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) in Bhubaneswar on Monday, 28 new cases of Omicron have been discovered in Odisha.
With the new instances, the overall number of Omicron infections in the state has risen to 103.
In December 2021, the first case of the new Covid-19 ‘variant of concern’ was recorded in Odisha. On December 21, 2021, two Omicron instances were reported. The sick couple had returned from their respective trips to Qatar and Nigeria.
Odisha had previously seen the highest increase, with 24 new Omicron cases reported. Seven instances were from Keonjhar, four from Khordha, three each from Puri and Sambalpur, two each from Boudh and Angul, and one each from Jagatsinghpur and Balasore.
On January 8, 2022, 14 new Omicron cases were recorded in Odisha, bringing the total number of Omicron cases in the state to 75.
It’s worth noting that the number of daily cases of Covid-19 infections in Odisha is now on the rise. On Monday, the state recorded 4,829 new Covid infections. The daily count of Covid-19 has surpassed the 4500 threshold for the second day in a row. The State had reported 4714 new Covid-19 cases as of Sunday.
