Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, today announced ex-gratia payments of Rs. 5 lakh to the surviving family members of those killed in the Balasore three-train tragedy.
A 1 lakh rupee ex-gratia was also declared by the CM for badly injured people. He also offered ex-gratia payments of Rs. 50,000 to other injured passengers.
At least 288+ people have died as a result of the June 2 train catastrophe involving the Coromandel Express, SMVP-Howrah Superfast Express, and a cargo train at Bahanaga in the Balasore region.
The Coromandel Express entered the loop route and struck a freight train that was parked there rather than the main line, according to the preliminary assessment, directly in front of the Bahanaga Bazar railway station.
According to the investigation, the coaches of the SMVP-Howrah Superfast Express overturned after colliding with the Coromandel Express coaches, which had dispersed on the opposite track after colliding with the freight train.
