Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) made a dividend payment of Rs 1,420 crore to the state government for the 2022-23 financial year. The cheque was handed over by Steel, Mines, and Works Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallik to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. OMC, being one of the largest iron ore producers in the country, achieved a turnover of Rs 14,450 crore during the same fiscal year.
With 18 operational mines, the state-owned corporation recorded a substantial production of 33.76 million tonnes of ore in the last financial year, showcasing a remarkable 15% growth compared to the previous year. The production comprised 29.68 million tonnes of iron ore, three million tonnes of bauxite, and 1.08 million tonnes of chrome ore.
OMC has been actively supporting various flagship welfare programs of the state government. Recently, the corporation also signed an agreement to sponsor the Indian national hockey teams, both men and women, from 2023 to 2033. Moreover, OMC has been actively contributing to the socio-economic development of the people residing in the mining periphery, particularly through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the additional chief secretary of the Steel and Mines department and chairman of OMC, Deoranjan Kumar Singh, 5T secretary VK Pandian, and OMC managing director Balwant Singh.
