As recommended by the Orissa high court, the state government on Monday approved a proposal to set up 41 new courts in the state to ensure speedy disposal of different pending cases.
The five civil judge courts will come up at Pipli (Puri), R Udayagiri (Phulbani), Basudevpur (Bhadrak), Khariar (Nuapada) and Birmaharajpur (Sonepur), said an official statement from the law department.
To ensure early disposal of case related to crime against women, the state government would also set up 10 new civil judge courts (senior section) in Cuttack, Puri, Ganjam, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Sambalpur, Balangir and Mayurbhanj districts.
The government has identified 26 rural places to set up civil judge (junior section) courts. To run the courts, law minister Arun Sahoo approved 11 posts including the judges for each court.
Earlier, the Orissa high court had recommended the state government to open more courts to dispose pending cases, official sources said.
“The courts will help in speedy disposal of cases. The general public especially in rural areas will benefit due to the decision,” said Sahoo. No definite timeframe has been fixed by the state government to start functioning of the courts. The decision would incur an additional expenditure worth Rs 17 crore from the state exchequer, sources said.
