Bhubaneswar,Dec.06: The state transport department has introduced e-challan system across Odisha today, doing away with manual issue of hand-written receipts to traffic violators.
Commerce and Transport Minister Dr Nrusingha Charan Sahu inaugurated the e-Challan project at Gita Gobinda Sadan here.
While the e-challan would reflect the antecedents of the driver concerned, repeat offenders will be imposed higher fines, an official said.
Mobile e-challan device will generate the vehicle check report (VCR) on the spot doing away with the manual VCR form, the official added.
Worth mentioning, the transport department had entered into an agreement with HDFC Bank on October 15, this year for collection of motor vehicle taxes/fines. The bank has provided 162 point of sale (PoS) machines and 195 mobile e-challan devices to the department. The PoS machines have been installed at the state transport authority and regional transport offices across the state and the e-challan devices will have been handed over to enforcement officers of the department for the paperless initiative.
