An official said on Friday that the Odisha government has unveiled a new livelihood and income-generating scheme for the tribal people with an outlay of Rs 500 crore.
Niranjan Pujari, the minister of parliamentary affairs, stated in the Odisha Assembly on Friday that the scheme was authorised by the state cabinet, which is chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, at its meeting on Thursday.
The Mukhya Mantri Janajati Jeebika Mission’s livelihood cluster development programme will be carried out by the ST & SC Development, Minority & Backward Classes Welfare department.
Via 22 integrated tribal development agencies (ITDAs), the state-funded programme would be implemented in 119 tribal sub-plan (TSP) blocks of the state over the course of three years with a total investment of Rs 500 crore (2023-24 to 2025-26).
According to the plan, over 1.5 lakh tribal households will receive support by being given timely access to high-quality inputs, infrastructure support incidental to subsistence, adoption of better production techniques, assistance with capacity-building and training, and marketing support in a convergence mode.
Through this new programme, the ST & SC Development department will give tribal households the opportunity to engage in carefully planned farm-based and non-farm livelihood activities at the household level in order to improve their income and quality of life over the long term, according to officials.
By boosting their economic power and solidifying their sources of income, this new effort will support the state of Odisha’s objective to improve the lives and livelihoods of the state’s indigenous populations.
The state cabinet has also approved an unique package of incentives for Indian Oil Company Limited’s proposal for a very significant investment (IOCL).
The Central-PSU has suggested building a massive Dual Feed Cracker (DFC) at Paradip for the production of ethylene, polypropylene, poly vinyl chloride (PVC), phenol, is-propyl alcohol (IPA), and other chemicals with an investment of Rs 58,042 crore.
Significant industrial growth in a number of downstream industries, including paints, plastics, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, personal care products, specialty chemicals, and packaging materials, will be made possible by the Dual Feed Cracker.
According to sources, the IOCL and its downstream sectors will directly and indirectly employ roughly 25,000 people.
