Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on accorded in-principle approval for setting up a commercial airport at Dhamra in Bhadrak district.
The approval was given at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi at the secretariat. During the meeting, principal secretary to commerce and transport department G Srinivas outlined the topics for discussion regarding setting up of the airport and its peripheral development.
The Adani Group had proposed to set up the airport at Dhamra Port for better air connectivity for the state.
Reviewing the development, Padhi directed the Dhamra port authorities to set up a community hospital for the benefit of people living on the port’s periphery.
It was decided in the meeting to develop port-based industries at Dhamra.
The Chief Secretary directed Bhadrak District Collector Gyan Ranjan Das to identify the land required for the purpose.
Padhi also directed the works department to finalise the tender process for the expansion of Jamujhadi-Dhamra road.
It was also decided in the meeting to set up a police station in Dhamra port area. Padhi directed the department officials to expedite supply of administrative and technical help for the purpose.
