Official sources said two companies of Rapid Action Force and two company of state raised Swift Action Force besides two unit of Special Operation group jawans will be deployed for the fete.

Odisha government has requested Centre to keep one team of NSG ready for any eventuality for the Puri car festival to be held on July 14.

Odisha Director General of Police R P Sharma on Saturday chaired a high-level senior police officials meeting about the arrangement and deployment of force for smooth conduct of the car festival of Lord Jagannath and his siblings Lord Balavadra and Devi Subhadra.

Official sources said two companies of Rapid Action Force and two company of state raised Swift Action Force besides two unit of Special Operation group jawans will be deployed for the fete.

About 145 platoons of Special Armed Police forces, 1000 police officers of various ranks, 2000 Home guards will be deployed in the pilgrim city .

Similarly,one unit of National Disaster Response Force and two units of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action force will be pressed into service.

The authority had decided to keep 400 life guards at the sea beach to keep a watch on the movement of large number of tourists and devotees likely to converge at the beach.

Inspector General rank officers will be posted for traffic control and crowd movement both inside and outside the Sri Jagannath temple.

In view of the arrival of lakhs of devotees to witness the car festival, the pilgrim city of Puri has been divided into four zone and each zone further divided into seven segments to be headed by a senior police officer.

A large number of CCTVs will be installed at the railway station, bus stand and several important places on the 3 km long Grand Road, the venue of the car festival to keep a watch on the movement of the people.

Sources said the force mobilization to Puri will be done on July 9 and 10.

The meeting was attended by Director intelligence Mr.Sunil Ray, Additional DGP Satyajit Mohanty, Pranabandhu Acharya, Arun Ray and Binayatosh Mishra besides five Inspector General of police and Puri Superintendent of police Sarthak Saranghi.
