Odisha government on Tuesday announced early summer vacation in all schools from April 25 in the wake of severe heat wave conditions across the state. Summer vacation was scheduled to begin from May 4 as per the academic calendar.
“Most parts of the state are reeling under severe heatwave conditions making normal life miserable. Even though morning schools are going on but children are facing the scorching heat while returning from school at 11 am. So we decided to advance the vacations,” said school and mass education minister Badri Narayan Patra. However, teachers will come to school till May 4, he added.
Following the government order many private schools decided to close down schools from Thursday after conducting classes on Wednesday. “It is a practical problem as the government issued order for school holidays late in the evening. We have lot of works to do before the vacations like giving holiday home works and assignments to students,” said principal of a leading private school.
