The incident occurred on Sunday night while the girl, a resident of Keonjhar district, and her brother were on their way to her sister’s place in Sukinda Chromite valley.
On Sunday, an Odisha girl suffered critical injuries after jumping from the roof of a school building in the Jajpur district. According to the police, she was attempting to flee a gang-rape attempt by five men. The accused men told the girl and her brother to seek shelter in the school because it was raining heavily, and then attempted to rape the girl.
“Based on the statement of the victim’s brother, all five people have been detained,” said Kalinga Nagar Police Station Inspector-in-Charge P B Rout.
Interrogation is currently taking place.
According to police, she was admitted to a hospital in Kalinga Nagar in critical condition on Monday. The girl, a resident of Keonjhar district, was on her way to her sister’s house in Sukinda Chromite valley with her brother when it began to rain heavily.
When they got off the bus, a group of men suggested they stay at the school and go to their destination when the rain stopped.
They took their advice and sought refuge there. The five men, however, returned late at night, beat up the brother, and chased him away. When they attempted to rape the girl, she ran to the school building’s roof and jumped from there, critically injuring herself, according to the police officer.
Locals rushed to the scene after hearing her brother’s scream for help and alerted the police. Police officers arrived in the village, rescued the girl, and took her to the hospital.
