According to reports on Wednesday, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha police has opened an investigation into claims that a company defrauded many investors out of a total of Rs 4 crore by making lucrative forex trading and cryptocurrency investment promises.
A claim that the company, Omm Agency & GRSS Greentech Pvt Ltd, with its office in Uttereswar in the Soro area of the Balasore district, provided 8% monthly interest on investments and collected money from depositors from 2019–21 prompted the investigation, they claimed.
Businessman Jitendra Kumar Dash of Balasore town recently filed a complaint with the EOW against the company, alleging that he had lost Rs 45 lakh to the fraud enterprise. This is how the situation came to light.
In 2019–20, Dash claimed he put Rs 45 lakh in the business, which at first provided positive profits. He claimed that after February 2021, the company ceased providing returns, even though he received almost Rs 11 lakh from his investment.
When he asked why it had taken so long to collect his interest, the corporation blamed the COVID outbreak and said it would soon repay all of his money, but it broke its word. Dash claimed that the company’s executives afterwards intimidated him and wouldn’t give him his money back.
According to Dash, the company received massive investments of almost Rs 4 crore between 2019 and 2021, according to an EOW official who was quoted by TOI. The firm officials are being sought for while appearing to be on the run.
