Binotirani Mondal paid the premium for weaker parts of society, which was Rs 10,811, to obtain the LRC against the house under the State government’s Jaga Mission from the Malkangiri municipality office.
Lalit Mandal’s wife is the subject of a controversy after it was claimed that she obtained a land rights certificate (LRC) for her home in Malkangiri town by presenting a ration card under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), which is intended for those who fall under the BPL category.
Ads by Binotirani Mondal obtained the LRC against the residence in Ward No. 15 under the State government’s Jaga Mission on August 20 from the Malkangiri municipality office for a fee of just Rs 10,811—the premium designated for underprivileged groups in society.
In response to accusations from residents of Ward No. 15 that Binotirani was the Deputy Collector’s wife and hence ineligible to receive the NFSA ration card, Municipality Executive Officer Ashok Chakrabarty stated that a show cause notice had been issued to her. She will soon need to deposit the $55,000 remaining on her insurance premium with the town.
The NFSA ration card granted to Binotirani was revoked on August 16 after it was discovered that she was the Deputy Collector’s wife, according to district civil supplies officer Ajay Kumar Ratha. The municipality generated the card online in July of this year. Lalit Mandal, the deputy collector, was not identified by name in the card. Instead, he stated, his father’s name was mentioned in it.
In the Malkangiri collectorate, Deputy Collector Lalit, an OAS officer serving as an emergency officer, claimed he was not aware of the ration card issued in his wife’s name because he was assigned outside. According to Lalit, who cited his wife, it was published in 2017–18, around the time that NGOs were conducting a survey on the subject. He insisted that no benefits were ever obtained through the ration card.
Locals meanwhile demanded an investigation after the occurrence. “How is it possible to grant the Deputy Collector’s wife an NFSA card? The authorities that issued the ration card should be subject to punishment, they argued.
