According to authorities, online crooks lured a young man into a honeytrap in the Khurda area of Odisha and demanded Rs 71,000 from him.
Benudhara Muduli, a victim, has reported the incident to the cyber police station in Bhubaneswar. Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he claimed to have recently received a video call from an anonymous nude girl.
Later, I received a call from a man who identified himself as Rahul Ji, an IPS officer. He asserted that he has the recordings and photos of nudity, and that a case would be filed against me. To be released from the case, he demanded Rs. 1.5 lakh, according to Muduli.
Benudhar claimed he sent Rs 71,000 to the account numbers of the cybercriminals in four instalments out of fear of a police investigation. Officials from the cyber police claimed to have opened an investigation into this matter.
Such a situation has occurred before in Odisha. A Bhubaneswar-based engineer was honey-trapped recently and lost Rs 25 lakh as a result.
