Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made a significant announcement on Wednesday, declaring a cash award of Rs 1.5 crore for javelin thrower Kishore Kumar Jena, a native of the state, who secured a silver medal at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Kishore’s remarkable performance, where he achieved a personal best throw of 87.54 meters, has also earned him qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Patnaik expressed his admiration, saying, “The award is a tribute to his outstanding performance, unwavering dedication, and indomitable spirit. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to him for his impressive victory at the Asian Games and for securing a spot in the upcoming Paris Olympics. Kishore’s triumph not only showcases individual excellence but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across the nation.”

The Chief Minister pledged full support to Kishore as he prepares for the Olympics next year. It’s worth noting that Patnaik had previously honored Jena with a cash award of Rs 50 lakh last month in recognition of his exceptional performance at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

Meanwhile, celebrations kicked off in Kishore’s hometown of Kothasahi, near Bramhagiri in Puri district. His family members distributed sweets to the villagers to mark this momentous occasion. Kishore’s mother expressed her pride, saying, “He has been diligently practicing for the Asian Games. I haven’t seen him in the last two years due to his rigorous training schedule.”
