In a compassionate move, Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik has taken a decisive step towards justice by ordering the withdrawal of cases on trivial charges against the Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Odisha. This initiative underscores the commitment of the state government to ensuring fairness and reducing the burden on the tribal communities.

Acting on the Chief Minister’s directives, the Home Department, Excise Department, and Forest & Environment Department meticulously reviewed minor cases registered against tribal men and women. A comprehensive examination resulted in the decision to withdraw a total of 48,018 cases related to forest and excise offences across these three departments.

Specifically, among the withdrawn cases, 36,581 were under the Excise Department, 9,846 under the Housing Department, and 1,591 under the Forest & Environment Department. This thoughtful decision not only alleviates the individuals affected but also signifies a progressive approach to justice and inclusivity.

The withdrawal of these cases holds broader implications, contributing to the alleviation of pressure on the courts and the judicial system. By addressing trivial charges, the state aims to ensure a fair and efficient legal process, promoting a more equitable society.

In conclusion, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s directive to withdraw cases on trivial charges against Scheduled Tribes reflects a commitment to justice and inclusivity. This initiative not only provides relief to those directly impacted but also aligns with broader efforts to streamline the legal system, fostering a more just and compassionate society in Odisha.
