On 13th June 2023, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved a financial aid of Rs 117.73 crores for the Cook-cum-helpers (CCH) or Pachika-Sahayikas working in the state’s schools. Additionally, the Chief Minister allocated Rs 500 as an allowance for each CCH towards purchasing sarees.
According to reports, Rs 117.73 crores have been approved as financial assistance, and Rs 5.45 crores have already been transferred to the bank accounts of 109,000 pachikas in the state.
During the event, Chief Minister Patnaik highlighted the significant role of mid-day meals in promoting education among children, emphasizing that CCHs carry the responsibility for this task. With over 45 lakh children enrolled in more than 50 thousand schools, the CCHs have taken on the responsibility of feeding these children, much like a mother would. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude on behalf of society for their invaluable service.
Acknowledging that the lunch program is being implemented through 4,730 Mission Shakti groups, the Chief Minister commended the CCHs for fulfilling their responsibilities effectively, just as they handle other duties.
