On May 30, 2023, the Federation Secretary General Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran visited the Honorable Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik, and gave him the first ticket for the Hero Intercontinental Cup, which would take place in Bhubaneswar from June 9–18.
Igor Stimac, the head coach of the Indian national team, and Sunil Chhetri, the captain of India, were both present. Prominent members of the Odisha government were also present, including Mr. Vineel Krishna, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister and Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs.
“It was an honour to meet with the Hon’ble Chief Minister today in Bhubaneswar and present the first ticket of the Hero Intercontinental Cup,” Dr. Prabhakaran said in a statement on the occasion. We also appreciate him for providing the finest possible assistance for Indian Football and for hosting this esteemed international competition.
Dr. Prabhakaran expressed his certainty that the Hero Intercontinental Cup in Bhubaneswar will be a big success, saying, “I am convinced that supporters would turn out in large numbers to support our team in Bhubaneswar. Our senior national men’s team will compete in an international competition for the first time in Odisha. It will undoubtedly have a significant influence on how football develops in the state.
Dr. Prabhakaran also complimented the Odisha government for constructing a world-class infrastructure for football in the state and providing the Blue Tigers with every amenity.
The third Hero Intercontinental Cup, which will include Lebanon, Vanuatu, and Mongolia, is expected to be a competitive match.
