In order to fulfil the Sustainable Development Goals, the UN claims that the public transportation system has been recognised for its contribution to “promot[ing] gender-responsive public services.”
The Mo Bus from Odisha Capital Region Urban Transport earned the esteemed UN Public Service Awards for 2022.
The Sustainable Development Goals can be achieved by providing effective, transparent, and inclusive public services, which is recognised by the UN Public Service Awards.
What you need to know about Mo Bus and the prizes is as follows:
When did Mo Bus start out?
The Bhubaneswar Puri Transport Services was established in 2010 with a mandate to manage and operate bus services on intra-city as well as inter-city routes in Bhubaneswar and between Bhubaneshwar, Puri, Cuttack, and Khurda, according to material on the CRUT website.
On May 4, 2018, BPTS changed its name to Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), with the intention of reorganising the city’s public transit systems.
According to the website, “It is the main organisation offering public transit services inside the capital city of Bhubaneswar and in the neighbouring cities of Cuttack and Puri.”
How come it won?
According to the UN, the public transportation system has been recognised for its contribution to “promot[ing] gender-responsive public services to meet the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)”.
According to Indian Express, the UN claimed that the Mo Bus addressed the issue of the vast majority of Bhubaneswar residents choosing to commute by private automobile, two-wheeler, and auto-rickshaw.
An e-rickshaw system dubbed “Mo E-Ride” has been deployed as a last-mile feeder service, according to the UN, and Mo Bus has integrated “real-time technology including live tracking, route planner, and e-ticketing.”
According to the UN, 57% of city commuters now take the Mo Bus, and the Mo E-Ride is expected to cut pollution by 30% to 50%. The UN also stated that “women, transgender persons, and people from disadvantaged communities make up 40% of Mo Bus conductors and 100% of Mo E-Ride drivers.”
