Bhubaneswar, November 22: An Odia IAS officer posted as Sub-Divisional Magistrate in West Bengal was allegedly tortured by a police official in Birbhum district on Thursday.
The IAS officer, Smrutiranjan Mohanty, alleged that he was misbehaved with and harassed by the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Rampurhat police station in the neighbouring state.
Mohanty wrote to West Bengal Chief Secretary and Home department secretary in this regard and urged them to take appropriate action against the accused.
In the letter, Mohanty said he was inspecting the police station when Rampurhat SDPO allegedly harassed him. The SDPO allegedly locked him up and detained him for many hours.
Later, Mohanty called up the sub-collector and his associate who reached the police station soon after. Following their intervention, Smrutiranjan was released.
The IAS officer alleged that the SDPO was still threatening him.
