Balasore,December 10: India on Monday successfully test-fired its indigenously developed Nuclear-Capable Agni-5 — Long Range Ballistic Missile — off the Odisha coast.
The surface-to-surface missile was launched from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Abdul Kalam Island in Balasore district in the Bay of Bengal at 1.30 pm, defence sources said.
This was the seventh trial of the state-of-the-art Agni-5. It was first test-fired on April 19, 2012, the second on September 15, 2013, the third on January 31, 2015, the fourth on December 26, 2016, the fifth on January 18, 2018, and the sixth on June 3, 2018.
The long-range ballistic missile is jointly developed by the Strategic Forces Command and Defence Research and the Development Organisation (DRDO).
The missile has a payload capacity of 1,500 kg of high explosive warhead and once inducted in the military, India will join an exclusive club of countries like the US, Russia, China, France, and Britain which have intercontinental ballistic missile
