Bhubaneswar: A day after the higher education department announced that students’ union elections of colleges and universities across the state will be conducted on October 11, the Utkal University authorities on Saturday decided not to hold the elections this year.
A decision in this regard was taken during the Post-Graduate (PG) Council meeting today.
The council took the decision following incidents of violence on the campus in the past few days. “The PG council observed that this year the situation on campus is not conducive,” said students’ union advisor Basant Kumar Mallick
Notably, the varsity witnessed violence following faceoff between students of pharmacy department and non-students on September 24.
