Chennai: The National Investigative Agency (NIA) has conducted raids at three places in Tamil Nadu to foil IS-inspired group’s plan to kill Hindu leaders.

The raids were conducted at Coimbatore and Nagoor on Thursday morning in connection with an alleged plot by an Islamic State (IS)-style group to murder leaders of two Hindu outfits.

The NIA source told news agencies that raids were carried out at two places in Coimbatore and one location in Nagoor. It was reported that the anti-terror agency was investigating the alleged plot to kill Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath and his son Omkar by IS-inspired groups.

Last year, a special unit of Coimbatore police uncovered and foiled a plot by members of an IS-inspired terror group to murder Sampath, Hindu Munnani leader Mookambikai Mani and Sakthi Sena leader.

According to NIA, the maximum number of terror plots in India have been unearthed in Tamil Nadu including modules of IS over a period of 5 years.
