At the National Tribal Dance Festival 2023, which was held in Oridha’s Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, tribal folk performers from eight states presented dance styles showcasing their distinctive cultures and heritage.
The dance fest is being conducted at Adivasi Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar as part of a five-day major event that got off on Monday.
“On the first day of the event, tribal performers from Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Assam performed. Here, cultural interchange amongst tribes from other states occurs “SC-ST Research and Training Institute, Bhubaneswar Director Indramani Tripathy spoke to the media.
The National Tribal Dance Festival and National Tribal Craft Mela for this year began on March 13 and run through March 19.
According to an official, the dance festival will take place over three days and feature 25 thrilling and traditional dances from 17 Indian tribes in 12 different states.
According to the officials, the two events are being hosted by Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute, Bhubaneswar every year with cooperation from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.
The National Tribal Dance Festival has reached its 12th year while the National Tribal Craft Mela is in its 10th year of celebration.
The official explained to the media sources, “Both occasions offer a venue for showcasing the depth of Indian Tribes’ traditional traditions and culture. These yearly celebrations are gaining popularity and allure over the course of the year.”
While the National Tribal Craft Mela runs until March 19, the National Tribal Dancing Festival concludes on March 15 between 6 and 8 o’clock in the evening.
The National Tribal Craft Mela will feature 14 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Odisha, showcasing exquisite bamboo, lacquer, paddy, stone, Sabai & Siali, wood, leaf, tribal painting, iron, and textile crafts, among others.
Jagannath Saraka, Minister of ST & SC Development, Minority and Backward Classes Welfare, and Law, Government of Odisha, officiated at the national level events.
Sulochana Das, the mayor of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Roopa Roshan Sahoo, the commissioner-cum-secretary of the M&BCW department’s department of ST & SC development, Indramani Tripathy, the director of the Bhubaneswar-based Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute, and other dignitaries were also present, according to the officials.
