Bhubaneswar: In a new development in the ongoing suspense over ‘mysterious’ disappearance of former Dhenkanal MLA Nabin Nanda, a report published in web magazine Patrika claimed that Nanda was released on bail after being arrested by Beniapukur police from inside a Spa in Park Street that was allegedly running a brothel.
Confirming the development, Nabin’s laywer Asim Kumar on Monday informed that Nabin Nanda was arrested on Saturday evening from a spa in Park Street, Kolkata under Immoral Trafficking Act and has been granted bail yesterday.
Sources said a case under Indian Penal Code Sections 120B read with 3/4/5/7/18 I.T (P) Act has been registered against 18 persons including Nanda, nine sex workers and three clients.
Nanda on the other hand rubbished such allegations and maintained that he had not visited the spa with ‘any wrong intention’. Rather, he was detained by police after he entered the spa during an attempt to chase a pickpocket.
“The allegations regarding involvement in sex racket and what has been published and propagated is completely fabricated, false and baseless. I am consulting lawyer and contemplating to take legal action in connection with the incident,” said Nanda.
Similarly, Nanda’s son Sambit said, “My father has been framed and it’s a conspiracy. My father went to Kolkata on a business trip. MLA of undivided Dhenkanal is behind all this.”
Later in the day, Nanda was suspended from BJD on the basis of the information about his condemnable action, according to a media release issued by the party office.
Earlier, Nanda had reportedly gone missing in Kolkata on Saturday and the former MLA in a telephonic conversation with media yesterday claimed that he could not contact his family as his belongings including his phone and wallet were taken away by a pickpocket.
In the meantime, Former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, who had tweeted a public appeal to locate him, clarified on Twitter, “I’ve secured the release of hundreds of Odias missing all over India & abroad. Similarly, on his family’s request, I tweeted a public appeal to locate Nabin Nanda, who was reported missing. Of course, if the info now reported about the circumstances is accurate, it is condemnable.”
