President-elect Draupadi Murmu was congratulated on her victory in the most recent presidential elections by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday. The leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) also declared his attendance at the Monday swearing-in ceremony.”I am so pleased and honoured that a daughter of Odisha has been chosen as the President of India,” news agency quoted Naveen Patnaik as saying.
During the visit, Patnaik was accompanied by lawmakers from his party. The chief minister of Odisha also sent good wishes for the future as the nation’s 15th president. He also commended Murmu for rising from obscurity to hold the nation’s top position. Patnaik also told reporters that it is “inspiring and a beautiful example of women empowerment.”
President Murmu also expressed her gratitude to Patnaik for endorsing her candidacy.
Former Jharkhand governor Murmu defeated united opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in the presidential race by garnering 64% of the vote. One of the earliest non-NDA parties to declare support for Murmu’s candidacy was the BJD.
