Man impersonating as doctor dupes patient’s kin in Odisha; three held

Sambalpur.Dec.24: Local police today arrested three persons on charges of cheating a patient’s kin impersonating as doctors in District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in western Odisha town of Sambalpur.

As per police, one Jitendra Kumar Nayak (25) from Samalmaliha in Angul district was cheated of Rs 32, 520 by three youths, one of them identifying himself as a doctor, on DHH premises last night.

Jitendra’s sister is currently undergoing treatment at the government-run hospital for cancer.

The complainant told police that while he was returning from a pharmacy store dejected due to non availability of medicines, one Prasant Pradhan met him who assured him to provide medicines at cheaper price through a doctor friend. Then Prasant called up his accomplices Pyarimohan Pradhan and Dalaganjan Naik where Pyarimohan introduced himself as a doctor.

After a round of brief introduction, Pyarimohan asked for Rs 32, 520 towards medicines. The trio left the spot asking Jitendra to wait for sometime. However, they did not return.

When Jitendra realized that he has been cheated, he lodged a complaint with the Town Police Station where the trio was booked under section 419, 420 and 34 of IPC.

Police swung into action and managed to arrest the three. The cash (Rs 32, 520) and four mobile phones were seized from their possession.

The trio was today forwarded to court.
