It is not everyday that a film like Karan Johar’s Kalank is announced. Featuring an ensemble cast of Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapur, the epic drama set in the 1940s also features Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt.

Interestingly, Kalank is not only being backed by three powerhouse producers but has managed to pull off a casting coup of sorts as Madhuri and Sanjay will be reuniting on the screen after a gap of 20 years.

Now Madhuri Dixit, who is currently shooting for Indra Kumar’s Total Dhamaal alongside Anil Kapoor, shared her excitement after being on the sets of Kalank which look breathtaking. The versatile actress took to Twitter and shared, “Just finished my shoot with @AnilKapoor and #indrakumar on the sets of #TotalDhamaal and was phenomenal as usual. Now arrived at the sets of #Kalank with @karanjohar for the look test. The sets are breathtaking. Can’t wait for you to see both films!!”

Meanwhile, talking about the film, Karan said in a statement, “Kalank has been an emotional journey for me. A germ of an idea that I had nearly 15 years ago; a film that was in pre-production stage helmed by my father. I am now proud to pass it on to the capable and visionary hands of our director, Abhishek. The film is a beautifully structured story by Shibani Bathija, and has an exceptionally fluid narrative and screenplay by Abhishek.”

Sajid Nadiadwala, who is jointly producing the film, further added, “April 18, 2014, was when 2 States had released, and now on April 18, 2018, Kalank begins its journey. This multi-starrer has a story that will cross all borders and will be historic in the true sense of the word. I am genuinely happy to be back with the team, as this film is special to all of us.”

Directed by Abhishek Varman, Kalank went on floors on April 18 and will hit the silver screens exactly a year later on April 19, 2019.
