Cuttack: The two and half month long cease-work agitation of Orissa High Court Bar Association has been called off today. The agitating lawyers withdrew their stir after a Bar Association meeting this afternoon.
The HC Bar Association held its meeting to decide its next course of action soon after the three suspended police personnel, accused in the alleged assault on a lawyer, sought an ‘unconditional apology’ before the Orissa High Court today.
The lawyers will resume their work from tomorrow (Thursday), informed Srikant Nayak, the president of the Bar Association.
Notably, on August 29, a lawyer Debi Prasad Patnaik was assaulted by a few police officials following a heated argument near Nua Bazaar bridge in Cuttack.
Protesting the attack on the lawyer, many lawyers gheraoed the Chauliaganj police station demanding action against the cops involved in the incident.
Later on August 30, Havildar Prasanna Kumar Behera, Constable Dillip Kumar Samal, and Odisha armed police force officer Udaya Kumar Bhuyan were placed under suspension by DCP Akhileswar Singh. This apart, a one-month notice was served to Home Guard Kishore Samal seeking his explanation.
However, demanding the arrested of the police personnel, the lawyers of HC Bar Association launched a cease-work strike. Despite several initiatives by the state police to solve the matter, they continued with their agitation, which came to an end today.
