Law Minister Shri Prithiviraj Harichandan on Sunday underscored the significance of moral and value-based education, urging schools across Odisha to incorporate the ancient Gurukul system into their curriculums. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the silver jubilee celebration of St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School in Cuttack, Harichandan emphasized how the Gurukul system shaped not just academic knowledge but also the character of students, fostering a healthier and morally upright society.

A Call for Value-Based Education

Harichandan highlighted the Gurukul system as an ideal model that integrates education with life values, helping students cultivate discipline, respect, and creativity. “Knowledge gained from Gurukuls not only builds character but also lays the foundation for a strong and healthy society,” he said, calling for a renaissance in education through the integration of ancient Indian teaching methods.

Lauding Excellence in Education

The minister praised St. Xavier’s School for its significant contribution over the past 25 years in shaping the future of its students. He advised students to harness their creativity and morality, making the best use of their talents to contribute to the nation’s progress.

Inspiring Words from Luminaries

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including National Law University, Odisha, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ved Kumari and Barabati-Cuttack MLA Sofia Firdous, who encouraged students to dream big and remain persistent in their efforts. Speaker Surama Padhy, the chief guest of the event, emphasized the role of education in nation-building.

Cultural Celebration and Creativity on Display

The highlight of the ceremony was the students’ heartfelt performance of ‘Guru Vandana,’ showcasing the sacred Guru-Shishya bond inspired by the Bhagavad Gita. The event also featured vibrant cultural performances, a photo exhibition chronicling the school’s 25-year journey, and the release of a handwritten Odia magazine titled Dronacharya.

Harichandan’s Vision for Odisha’s Education

Prithiviraj Harichandan’s call for adopting the Gurukul system aligns with his larger vision of reviving Odisha’s cultural and moral heritage. His advocacy for value-based education demonstrates his commitment to fostering a generation that is not only academically accomplished but also morally grounded.

As a leader deeply rooted in Odisha’s traditions, Harichandan continues to champion initiatives that connect the state’s glorious past with its promising future. His efforts to incorporate ancient wisdom into modern education reflect his dedication to building a brighter and more inclusive society.

This vision, coupled with his emphasis on ethical leadership, further solidifies Harichandan’s role as a transformative figure in Odisha’s political and educational landscape.
