A lady SI is said to have been hounded and harassed in the capital of Odisha, even as the entire nation reels from the New Year’s Day incident in Delhi in which a 20-year-old woman was dragged beneath a car for 12 kilometres.
Criminals on an Innova chased the 36-year-old SI Subhashree Nayak of the Mahila PS in Bhubaneswar and verbally harassed her. On January 2, at around 1:30 am, the police officer was on her way home after completing her night shift near Science Park in the Acharya Vihar neighbourhood.
Subhashree, who was also in a car, sped off and drove into a police reserve area in an effort to save herself.
But the miscreants, who were thought to be intoxicated, pursued her and attempted to harm her. She yelled for help, fearing for her life.
The miscreants reportedly left the area when they saw additional police officers.
The issue came to light after the lady SI filed a formal complaint with the Saheed Nagar police regarding this occurrence. The tragedy has shocked everyone in Odisha.
After the incident, the police SI was so terrified that he requested help from Saheed Nagar police to apprehend the offenders. The Saheed Nagar police have reacted and are using CCTV video to find the criminals.
According to early indications, police have located the car. Police have not yet officially announced the accused’s arrest, though.
The culprits have been identified, and a manhunt has been started by the Commissionerate Police to find them.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh briefed the reporters, saying, “The lady SI who was hounded and verbally abused by miscreants works at Mahila Police station. She got into a fight over overtaking with a four-wheeler motorist while she was heading home from work. She was later pursued by the motorist till she entered Reserve Police Ground. She complained about this to the Saheed Nagar police. Police are reviewing CCTV evidence in light of her statement regarding the description of the car that chased her. A few suspects have been identified, and efforts are being conducted to find them.
