If the system takes the form of a cyclonic storm, it will be dubbed Mandous by the United Arab Emirates. The cyclone’s name will follow the World Meteorological Department’s guidelines for naming tropical cyclones. This would be the second post-monsoon cyclone of the season.

“The Low Pressure Area over south Andaman Sea & neighborhood with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid tropospheric levels persists. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal by 06th December evening,” the IMD Bhubaneswar said in its evening weather bulletin. 

“Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards, intensify further gradually into a Cyclonic Storm and reach Southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by 08th December morning,” the IMD added.

According to the weather service, the system will have no direct impact on Odisha. However, the system will bring very heavy rain to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands today.

The IMD predicts increased rainfall activity with isolated heavy rainfall over north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal beginning at midnight on December 7.

It is expected to increase with rainfall in most places, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on December 8 and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Tamilnadu on December 9.

Similarly, increased rainfall activity with isolated heavy rainfall is expected to begin over south Andhra Pradesh on December 7 at midnight. Rainfall is expected to increase in most places, with isolated heavy to very heavy rain on December 8 and isolated heavy rain on December 9 over south Andhra Pradesh.
