Bhubaneswar,10 Jan.2019: JSW Cement will provide piped and solar-based water supply to 11 villages near its upcoming cement grinding plant in Jajpur district.

This initiative is a part of JSW Cement—a subsidiary of the US $13 billion JSW Group—‘Enterprise and Social Commitment’ programme. The company has collaborated with the Rural Water Supply & Sanitation (RWS&S) department of Odisha for the initiative.

The project will provide piped water supply to the villages of Baliapal, Sagadagula, Kamalabahali, and Malikani; and solar-based water supply in the villages of Belanda, Ulibeda, Bandha Sahi, Sahupur, DahiSahi, MohantaSahi, and Patra Sahithrough a total of approximately 7,500 metres of pipeline.

The project is currently under implementation by the RWS & S division of Jajpur and is likely to be completed in 2019.

In addition to the above, JSW Cement has already completed a piped water supply project in Jakhapura village with approximately 1,600 meters of pipeline and65 outlets. Work is also underway to renovate the village community pond.

Commenting on the initiative, a company official said, “Availability and quality of water are grave problems in many Indian villages and, going by a NITI Aayog report, the situation may get worse by the year 2030. As a socially responsible company, we seek to address such issues in the areas where we already have or are planning to establish our presence. We believe that the economic development of any region must go hand-in-hand with social welfare and the provision of life-essential amenities. We are thankful to the Government of Odisha for their support in this initiative, and we hope we are able to make a positive difference to the lives of the villagers with it.”

JSW Cement is currently establishing a 1.2 mtpa cement grinding plant in Jajpur district and is planning to expand the capacity to 2.4 mtpa in near future. The company is the first manufacturer of slag cement in India to have achieved “Green Pro Certification” from the Confederation of Indian Industry for implementing an environment-friendly manufacturing process.
