According to sources, Iyer-Mitra has been admitted to the surgery ward of the hospital and is undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, former MP Baijayant Panda took to twitter stating that even after apologising for his comments, which was accepted by the Odisha Assembly, Iyer-Mitra is still languishing in jail while hardened criminals move to hospitals within hours of being jailed.
The former parliamentarian also stated that the issue needs further introspection.
“This, after 5+ weeks in jail, even after profusely apologising for his comments, which was accepted by the Odisha Assembly.. When hardened criminals move to hospital within hours of being jailed, & accused rapists & murderers get bail much sooner than this.. Needs introspection,” Panda tweeted.
Iyer-Mitra who posted a video on his twitter handle criticising and making derogatory comments on the people of the State, the Konark temple and Lord Jagannath in September this year was arrested by Odisha police after two FIRs were registered against him at the Konark police station in Puri and Saheed Nagar police station in Bhubaneswar.
Meanwhile the statement of Baijayant Jay Panda in the Twiter has raised many eye-bros , Though most feel sorry for Abhijit Iyer for unwittingly making derogatory comments against Odisha, its culture, monuments etc. they outright reject Panda’s arguments. They say that though the eminent media person Ayer has been pardoned by the House Committee for the charges of breach of privilege. none of the criminal cases filed in Konark, Sahid Nagar Bhubaneswar police stations have been dropped. Since all the cases are cognizable the State Government has no right to drop the cases, Most of the legal experts opine that under the existing law no Chief Minister, nor the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court are empowered to withdraw or drop any cases filed for committing cognizable offence.
Since Ayer faced problems by making derogatory remarks while accompanying former M.P. Baijayanta Jay Panda to visit Konark by his chopper , Panda is keen to ensure his release ignoring the legal procedures .
People of Odisha whose sentiments were wounded because of filthy remarks of Abhijit feel sorry for his sickness and pray for his quick recovery don’t agree with the “strange” arguments of Panda. Certainly it is the duty of the police and the judiciary to ensure proper medical attention and to provide him immediate treatment, but how Abhijit can be released without bail ? they ask. Many of the charges against Aiyar are not compoundable about which Mr Panda should be aware before making any statement in his Twiter handle to misguide the public.
