IndiGo flight makes emergency landing at BPIA; ailing passenger dies at Capital hosp

Bhubaneswar,Dec.22 : An IndiGo flight en route to Bangalore from Kolkata was diverted to Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar after a passenger was taken ill today.

According to sources, the passenger, identified as Rajkumar Karmakar (32) of Malda area in West Bengal, was rushed to Capital Hospital here where he was declared dead.

Family members told media persons that Rajkumar was suffering from stomach ailments and headed to Bangalore for treatment. When he turned critical and suffered a seizure, the flight landed at BPIA for necessary treatment.

The airport officials and doctors on duty provided necessary assistance to the ailing passenger at the airport and rushed him to the Capital Hospital.

However, doctors here declared him dead after some minutes of arrival. The body will be handed over to the family member after post-mortem, said a source.

The IndiGo 6E 822 flight that reportedly departed from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata at 10.10 am today. The Bangalore-bound flight landed at the Bhubaneswar Airport at 11.15 am after the diversion.
