The missile was developed by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between the Russian Federation’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The name BrahMos is a portmanteau created by combining the names of two rivers: India’s Brahmaputra and Russia’s Moskva.

Off the coast of India, the Indian Navy warship INS Vishakhapatnam conducted another successful test of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile earlier this month.

“From INS Visakhapatnam, an advanced sea-to-sea variant of the BrahMos Supersonic Cruise missile was tested today. The missile precisely targeted the selected target ship “In a tweet, the DRDO stated.

BrahMos is the primary weapon system used by Indian Navy warships and is found on nearly all of their surface platforms.
