In the “Swachh Survekshan- 2022 and Indian Swachhata League” awards event conducted in New Delhi today and attended by President Droupadi Murmu, eleven cities from Odisha were declared as winners.

Senior officers of the Housing & Urban Development Department and representatives of the winning Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) accepted the prizes.

The Housing and Urban Development Department, as well as the award-winning cities, were congratulated by the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, for their outstanding performance in Swachh Survekshan 2022. He also expressed satisfaction with the cities’ efforts toward realising the Swachha Odisha Sustha Odisha goal.

With a combined score of 7500 points on various criteria, the 11 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Odisha—Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, Berhampur Municipal Corporation, Puri Municipality, Paradeep Municipality, Bargarh Municipality, Basudevpur Municipality, Bellaguntha NAC, Bijepur NAC, Binika NAC, Chikiti NAC, and Junagarh NAC—won the awards for Swachh Survekshan 20

Additionally, in the Indian Swacchata League 2022, which was revealed yesterday, Cuttack city and Pipli ULB each got National Awards.

Urban Odisha has seen a metamorphosis and revolution in solid and liquid waste management and sanitation. The entire Solid Waste Management (SWM) value chain has benefited from the introduction of Micro Composting Centers (MCCs) and Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), collectively referred to as Wealth Centers for the management of wet and dry waste, respectively. Similar to this, installing septage treatment plants (SeTPs) across all 115 urban local bodies (ULBs) in the state has assisted in reducing water and environmental pollution in Odisha’s cities.

A sustainable sanitation paradigm for the nation has now formed, involving Mission Shakti SHGs, transgender groups, and Swachh Karmis. It is decentralised, community-driven, and has low capital and operational costs.
