The output of 25 of the top 37 mines has been greater than 100%, and the output of another five mines was between 80% and 100% over the past month.
In September, the nation’s coal production increased 12% to 57.93 million tonnes. 51.72 MT of coal were produced in India during the same time last year.
According to the coal ministry’s provisional figures, “During September 2022, CIL (Coal India Ltd), Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), and captive mines/others registered an increase of 12.35%, 8.43%, and 12.37% by producing 45.67 MT, 4.93 MT, and 7.33 MT, respectively.”

Additionally, the coal dispatch increased slightly by 1.95 percent to 61.18 MT in September from 60.02 MT in the same month previous year.
The coal ministry reported that CIL, SCCL, and captive mines/others saw increases of 1.03, 4.13, and 6.84 percent in September 2022 by dispatching 48.88 MT, 4.77 MT, and 7.53 MT, respectively.
Additionally, the dispatch of coal to power utilities increased last month to 51.71 MT from 50.16 MT the month before.
Compared to September of previous year, coal-based power generation saw an increase of 13.40%. In comparison to September 2021, the total amount of electricity produced in September was 13.77% more.
Over 80% of the domestic coal output comes from CIL. By FY24, the PSU plans to produce 1 billion tonnes of coal.
